My Creed for a Creative Life

1.     I believe creativity is communion with the original creator. Creating uniquely engages our souls.

2.     I believe meaningful writing begins with patient listening. Life directs us when we’re quiet and open.

3.     I believe writing practice is best nurtured with daily habit, flexibility, and a dose of grace. Words recorded in a waiting room or on a walk still count.

4.     I believe words can be art and simplicity is best. If beauty and clarity battle, the latter should win.

5.     I believe creativity can help turn pain into beauty. Anger, resentment, and hurt can become empowerment, growth, and healing.

6.     I believe the words we choose make bridges, bombs, or booms. Intention, kindness, and gentleness create connection, not chaos or noise.

7.     I believe sharing sensitive stories requires care and discernment. Some writing is therapeutic and not meant for public consumption.

8.     I believe creativity is inextricably linked to courage and faith. Sharing work is an act of vulnerability and trust.

9.     I believe regular critique is necessary and should be delivered thoughtfully. Kind, balanced feedback nourishes creative seeds.

10. I believe all are welcome and worthy at the writing table.
Writers of every level can learn from each other when ego exits the room.

11. I believe in perpetual learning and growth. The rank of experts does not list me; for a student, I will always be.

 12. I believe supporters deserve gratitude. Many are the skeptics who see creative pursuits as foolish; few are the encouragers who recognize their necessity.

13.    I believe in creating a solid foundation, not just a following. Refining my craft, building character, and becoming authentically me define my success.

 14. I believe in dedicating a portion of time and talent in joyful service. When our gifts serve others, we walk in purpose and wake in peace.
